WINDOWS - mini/MAXI
This body of work explores the theme of windows from several points of view. The first is reflections and the paradox of knowing that glass is transparent while seeing the visual barrier formed by the reflections. Secondly, there are images of peering into the hidden recesses beyond the window pane. These paintings have a sense of mystery and become metaphors for the unconscious realm of dreams or of a longing to be inside. A third group emphasizes the multiple layers of inner and outer spaces combined with reflections. This creates a tension between representation and abstraction.
Some of the paintings are very small (about 3"x6") and are intended to be seen with a good deal of space surrounding them. This causes the viewer to examine them at close range and enhances the feelings of intimacy and of entering into the paintings space.
Very close cropping draws the viewer into the world depicted in the paintings. Once there he encounters ambiguity, mystery, and spatial complexity.
